Welcome to NIJE Ginalii

Empowering Indigenous students through mentorship and cultural connection

What Is Ginalii?

In the first year of the program, students are assigned a cohort - in order to foster community build. Our first cohort is named Shiyo, translating to ‘the number one’ in Cherokee. They are then assigned a mentor (their buddy), based on their interested colleges, tribal nation, and interests. From here, they work together to locate extracurricular opportunities, scholarships, and Indigenous/Native resources. Mentors will also provide non-academic and cultural advice as needed too. Mentees will also work to develop a college list. Afterwards, they will undergo rigorous essay revision from the Ginalii team. This support continues into the second year, when the Mentee attends their respective college choice. They will continually meet with their mentor throughout the year - where they will have access to their mentor for academic, career, club and cultural support, as well as general life advice.
